5. The Joy of Creation, Letting-Go, and Rebirth |

The Joy of Creation, Letting-Go, and Rebirth

– Musings of Dr. Jamie C. Hsu, 9.13.2016

Just like every child, you must have played at the beach and built a sand castle, only to see it washed away by the waves and swallowed by the sea.

Did you feel sad? Not at all. You laughed, clapped, and started all over again with your next creation — maybe a taller castle, a monster sea creature, or whatever tickled your fancy. You experienced the joy of un-inhibited creation, the freedom of letting-go, and the confidence of “I can do it again and better.”

That is exactly what happened to 70,000 people at the Burning Man Festival in the Nevada desert. They created all sorts of art pieces, met new friends, let go of their jobs and titles, shared everything, and did the craziest dances. At the end of the festival, they burned their work: the gigantic wooden man, the Buddhist temple, and all sorts of beautiful art creations. Then they cleaned up and returned the desert to its original tranquil existence. No traces were left, just the fond memories and the liberation of many hearts and souls.

They relived the joys of little kids playing in the sand.  The young and the old, the working poor and the millionaires — All shared the same euphoric experience of “creation and letting-go.” That is the source of ultimate happiness and contentment, and the driver for endless innovation.  You should cultivate the mindset of letting-go and experience the sensation of being liberated. It is not going to be easy, but it definitely is worthwhile.

Let go of your fame, your face, your ego, and your old beliefs.  You’ll experience a totally different world.  Enjoy it!
Like Lao Zhi said:  When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be.
