The 3 Phases of Life

In a life span, our body goes through 3 phases of change and performance.

We grow our body and its capability, we use our body to contribute, and then we try to sustain our aging body. Such transformations are all around us as seen in kids, adolescents, young adults, middle-agers, seniors, and elders.

Growth and Development

Kids and adolescents are amazing. They grow both physically and mentally every day, without even being aware of it. Kids learn to crawl, walk, run, jump, somersault and play sports, and they do it naturally and with ease and grace. As the brain develops, young people begin to have a vast cognitive and analytical capacity to solve problems, to reason, to judge, and to create things. This phase of growth and development is so marvelous and yet unappreciated sometimes.

Maturity and Contribution

This is the stage when we use our body and mind in exchange for personal, career, and family goals. People get married, raise families, find jobs, establish careers, and pursue hobbies.  They buy houses, increase their wardrobe, collect arts, play sports, and indulge in other pursuits of “happiness and belonging” in life. The well-developed mature body and mind is used to attain the many goals in life. This phase of contribution is so intense that the body’s deterioration is often unnoticed.

Sustain and Prolong

When most of life’s duties are gone, retirees will do everything in exchange for better health and longer life. They exercise, learn yoga and Tai Chi, eat healthy food, search for cures for aches and pains, engage in spiritual pursuits, and visit doctors regularly. With luck and care, this phase of life can be most enjoyable and peaceful.

在人的一生中,我們的身體會經歷三個不同階段的轉變。

當我們的身體與能力隨之長成後,我們開始使用自己的體能來作出貢獻;接下來便會試圖維持、延緩身體的老化。這樣的轉變圍繞著我們,從幼童、青少年、年輕人、中年人、到老年人。

成長與發展

兒童與青少年的發展是驚人的。他們的身體或精神上,每天都不知不覺地成長中。孩子們學會爬行、走路、跑步、跳躍、翻跟斗和運動,都是那麼地自然而輕鬆。隨著大腦的發展,年輕人開始具有廣泛的認知和分析能力,來解決問題、推理、判斷並創造事物。這個階段的成與發展是如此奇妙,但有時候不見得會被注意和賞識到。

成熟與貢獻

在这階段,則是我們用身心靈去換取個人、事業、家庭的目標。人們會結婚、學著養家餬口、找工作、建立事業、追求樂趣。還開始買房、增添衣櫃、收集藝術品、玩運動等,追求人生中的幸福與成就感。發展成熟的身心靈被用來實現生活中的許多目標。這個階段中的貢獻是十分強烈的,身體的弱化却往往會被忽略。

維持與延續

當大部分的職責都完成的時候,退休的人們會竭盡全力去改善健康狀況以延長生命。大家會去鍛鍊身體、學瑜珈、打太極、吃健康食品、治療疼痛、追求精神支柱、定期去找醫生作檢查。若運氣不錯,加上適度關注,這個階段的生活可以說最愉悅、最平靜的。
