Navigating Stormy Waters and Uncertain Times

One important thing I have learned is from expert sailors: You must attack the waves and move forward. For example, when encountering stormy seas, the worst thing you can do is idle your boat. The waves will toss the boat and eventually roll it over sideways. The survival trick is to sail toward the waves head-on. You will plunge in and out of the waves and go up and down, but you will not roll over. And eventually, you will emerge victoriously.
Another important thing I have learned is from white-water rafters: When riding a raft down a turbulent river, it is critical to keep rowing hard. This will give the raft a forward moving speed relative to the rushing water. Only with this relative speed can the rudder perform its function to steer the raft. If you idle without any relative speed to steer, you will be totally at the mercy of the tossing and swirling torrent.
What is the lesson here? When encountering economic downturn, political upheaval, an uncertain future, and business hurdles, the surviving winners will be the ones who keep moving forward, sharpening their skills, building their capabilities, and attacking the problems straight-on.
The sure losers and victims are those who sit there, complain about the bad luck, feel sorry for themselves, and are paralyzed by the unknown. They will most likely be rolled over and swept away by the giant waves and torrent of uncertain times and events.
Take action, move forward, attack the stormy seas, and you’ll be ahead of others when you emerge into the tranquil seas ahead.

當一個穿越風暴的導航者

我從專業水手身上學到一件重要的事情：那就是你必須突破迎來的浪潮並且勇往前行。就像在海上遭遇暴風雨時，最糟的處理方式就是將船擱置不動；這時大浪將劇烈摔動船身、最終會翻覆它。這時的生存法則是要正面朝向波浪，並且要向前航行。儘管會隨著海浪上上下下，但船身並不會因此而翻覆。最終，你會得到勝利。
此外，我也從急流泛舟中得到重要的啟示。當在湍急的河流中划行橡皮筏子時，如何保持加速划行是很要緊的事情；這樣將會提供筏艇相對於湍流的前進速度。只有用相對的速度，方向舵才能執行轉動筏艇的功能。如果筏艇不比水流走的快，它將會任水流擺布而無法转向。
我們從這當中學到了什麼？當遇到景氣衰退、政治動盪、不可知的未來、經營發生困難時，倖存的勝利者就是那些懂得不斷勇往前進、不斷努力磨練自己、建立自我能量並且能解決問題的人。
而註定是失敗者及成為被害者的人，則是呆坐在原地、抱怨運氣不佳、抑或嘆氣為自己感到遺憾、甚至被未知的事物所擊潰。這樣的人很可能最終就縮捲在原地，被襲來的巨浪或不知名事件所吞沒。
你該採取行動、向前邁進、並且迎擊風暴。這樣的你，將能在風暴過後，比別人更早駛向前方寧靜的海洋；享受陽光、藍天，以及你用勇氣與努力所換取的果實。
