
Am I Adding Value and Becoming More Valuable?

How do I get promoted or recognized? How do I succeed in my career? Many people ask these questions and try to find the magic answer. Is it better communication skills to toot your own horn, is it playing politics in the office, is it strong networks, or is it job rotation?
My answers to all those questions are both yes and no. Communication, people skills, and being well connected are all beneficial to your career. But these are not the primary drivers for a successful career.
Put yourself in the shoes of your company, your investors, and your bosses. What do they care about the most? They want an employee who can add value, who is knowledgeable, and who can contribute faster and better than others.
So, to be successful in your career, keep asking yourself:
- Am I adding value to a critical objective and project?
- Am I learning new skills and gaining new experiences to become more valuable to the company?
- Am I passionate about the job so I can do it faster and better than others?
These questions will move you in the right direction and help you find ways to increase your value. The six geographic graphs will illustrate my key pointers for success. I will explain them in subsequent blogs to shed more light on them. For now, here is a sneak preview. The key enablers are: Customer Focus, Time Utilization, Value Chain Analysis, People Skills, Breaking the Glass Ceiling, and Holistic Approach.

“究竟我要如何才能在工作上升遷、受到認同?””我要怎樣在職場上成功?”這些是很多人常常問、並且希望能得到一個具有”神力”的答案。是用更好的包裝技巧來吹噓自己?還是要更擅長”處理”所謂的辦公室政治?建立更強大的人際關係?又或者是想辦法讓自己進行工作輪調?
對於這些所有的問題以及可能的方法,我認為並非”Yes”或者”No”這樣全然絕對的答案。因為溝通、人際關係、良好的交際,全都有利於你的職涯發展。但,這還不是你打造成功事業的主要驅動因素。
讓自己站在公司老闆、投資者、主管的角度來看,什麼是他們最關心的?他們要的是一位懂得讓自己不斷增值、能博學多聞、可以比別人更快更好貢獻所長的員工。
因此,要擁有一個成功的事業,你應該不斷問自己:
「我是否能為公司的重點目標或關鍵項目的發展有所加分?」、「對公司而言,我是否是不斷學習新技能、不斷累積經歷,成為一個有價值的員工?」、「我是否因為對於工作的熱忱,讓我比別人做得更快更好?」
這些問題將可以引導你朝向正確的方向、幫助你找到更多方式去增加自我價值。我想在之後的分享文章中,強調如何透過首頁的6張圖來說明成功事業所需要的關鍵指標。
